1655 clutch

Have a 1655D that the clutch was replaced about 350 hours ago.

Suddenly yesterday, it ceased to engage properly. Pedal to the floor--wont disengage without grinding and wont engage unless I shut it off and then start it in gear. It will jump just a little even with clutch pedal on floor when starting in gear.

Is this likely a clutch adjustment issue? Was working perfectly until this occured?

Suggestions, ideas???

Is your clutch adjusted properly?

Your throwout bearing may have worn down the fingers on the pressure plate.

I had the fingers wear off the pressure plate on the 1600 and the fork that holds the throw out bearing broke in the 1550.

How can I tell if it is adjusted properly? Seemed to work just fine up until this moment. It would engage when the pedal was let up maybe 1/4 of the way.

If the clutch free play was adjusted correctly, sounds like what the previous posters said. I have had mixed results with non-greasable throwout bearings. I ordered one at the local John Deere dealer thru A&I. When I got it was like the older regreasable heavier style. Have had real good luck. No failures yet. They are made in USA. Price was about the same as nongreasable bearings.

Clutch should be adjusted so there is .75" free play in the fully-engaged position (pedal extended, foot off and on the deck). You should be able to "freely" lift the clutch pedal up about .75" with your hand from its fully-engaged position. Get it?

Ok just checked it. Appears to be about 2inches or so of free play. Had no idea about any of this bought rg tractor about 50 hours ago. Am I screwed now? Should I try to adjust it?
