Oliver rear axle leak

My 550 is leaking oil through the rear axle seal. Oil is running down tire. How do I go about replacing the seal?

Thread about a page and a quarter down. Super99 re his 1850. That might help - same problem, just a bigger axle.

Frank, Take the wheel off, then remove the hub, clean the axle, take out the 4 bolts, remove the cap and the seal is right there. before you remove the cap check the axle for up and down movement, if it does move you can fix that by removing a shim or 2 from under the cap, just don't make it to tight. Chuck

You might want to be sure and check the axle where the seal has been riding. Often grit and grime have made a slight ring around the axle. If so you may want to speedy sleeve or JB weld it. Also, there may be a felt washer you need to replace also.
