Super and fleet line wide fronts

I have had a 77 with a narrow front for 16 or so years. It steers exceptionally well. I recently bought a super 88 with a wide front. I"ve never driven a steam engine, but couldn"t imagine it steers much worse than the super 88. Steering is heavy and slow, and cranked all the way is not very tight, not nearly as tight as my 16 or 1855. Is this typical or do I have problems? Is there a different ratio for wide front tractors? This seems slower than the 77. Are the stops adjustable? Thanks,
Josh

All the old Oliver wide fronts had the turning problem. In the 70's I used a 880 diesel wide front on a six row narrow planter and had to drag the front end around with brakes every turn.

I do not know what Oliver was thinking with those early front ends. The nice running tractor with those wide front ends it was no selling point.

When I worked in a dealership way back in the early 60"s we took the center steering arm off and cut it on a band saw and added (can"t remember) either 3/4" or 1".  It made them steer quicker and turn shorter.
Wouldn"t dare do that today with the laws the way they are!

I bought a 770 during the 70's and put a wide front on it, didn't turn short the local Oliver dealer had a scource to get a short turn block that bolted to the steering arm and extended it toward the rear of tractor about inch and one half, they were made in Henderson, MN if memory serves me correctly.
