Removed oil pan to fix a couple leaks. The side of the pan that fits against the block has a raised section that the center of the gasket sits on. The issue I have is the bolt holes are higher than the raised center section. Was it stamped this way? If so what is the proper way to install pan. I was going to use permatex aviation to seat gasket on pan and to seal it to block, not sure if it"s going to work now

Used a ball peen hammer and 6x6 and knocked the pan reasonably flat. I will use a thicker gasket sealant to fill any irregularities, top and bottom. I hope it works

I was going to suggest what you are doing. Somebody tightened the pan bolts too much. Have pounded a lot of pans back down. Take your time and no problem. I always keep looking looking at the pan to see if it is straight sometines it will bow out a little. A 2X4 and lead hammer and it will straighten out.
I have always used permatex #2. It is thick and have never had a problem with it migrating. Put on enough to hold the gasket and it will never go anywhere.
As a side note one time I overhauled an engine where the guy really layed into the gasket with silicaone. It migrated into the crank and plugged the drilled holes in the crank shut. Like Paul Harvey used to say you know the rest of the story.
One last thing I tighten the pan bolts by feel.
Let it set a day and retighten. Good to go.
