1850 rear axle leaking oil

I took the 1850 on a tractor ride yesterday, got along good until the last rest stop. I got out to stretch and noticed the right rear wheel had oil marks on it. It's seeping around the axle, not terrible, but sure is messy. What do I have to do to fix it? Seems like it did it before a few years ago, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I know I didn't have to take the wheel off. Any help?? Thanks, Chris

I just put a seal in a 1750 and there is a lip seal with a felt on the outside of it and shims to adjust the bearings. The wheel has to come off.

I wonder if you took some shims out. If you cut them cleanly you can take them out without removing the wheel and still reuse them later.

If you need bearings the PTO has to come off to get the axle out and when you change the shims that moves the seal which can cause some problems.

Pay attention to how far the seal is pushed into the seal holder. The axle was rough where the felt ran on the one I worked on.

I would check the oil level in the transmission first. Sounds like it could be hydraulic oil leaking into the transmission. There are two plugs in back rear right of the housing to check low and higer one enouh oil.
Usually a bad seal will weep, but it sounds like your getting more than that.
If oil level is ok, previous post indicated what you might want to check into doing.
