Oliver 550 steering gear ID

I'm restoring an Oliver 550 and am in the middle of a steering gearbox rebuild. The forward sector gear was bent and missing teeth. I purchased a replacement gear on eBay, but it doesn"t mesh with the rack. The original tooth spacing is 3/4", chord, at big end. The replacement gear tooth spacing is 5/8" measured similarly. The teeth on the back side mesh with the rear sector gear fine. The parts dealer suspects my parts are not original Oliver and might be Ford. I"m not sure. Any ideas on correct part identification?

One thing you might do is contact Kent Gordon. If there were any differences in the steering gears, he probably has seen it at some time he has parted out tons of Super 55s and 550s.

Email me if you don't have his contact info. I don't like posting it on the web.

The story requires a little more detail. Prior to purchasing the replacement sector gear, I purchased an entire steering gearbox, hoping to get lucky. No such luck. Both sector gears were damaged. However, all the gears in this gearbox match and mesh with the gears & rack in my original steering gearbox. The only odd part is the single forward sector gear purchased as an individual part. As for part markings on the forward sector gear; my original is stamped OL8, the part from the second gearbos is X5? (missing tooth), and the odd gear is stamped FV9.

Thanks for your help. Kent Gordon fixed me up with the correct sector gear and at a great price, also. I don't know if Mr. Gordon visits this site, but I sure appreciate his help.
