yay !!! i think that qualifies me for the oliver club. :)

Does it run or when was the last time it has run? You might want to change fuel filters, make the screw driver test on the injection pump to make sure the injection pump is O. K. I see it is a 57 or later.

I think it's a hybrid Jon. The fuel cap is up front so it's a 56 or older, but somebody has put embossed fenders and a 550 dash on it.

I saw that too. I also saw where it has the late hydraulic system and key start which started in January of 1957.

Where are you located. I think I know that tractor. Looks like
you are in California. Very nice score. Good luck. That trans-
am in the back looks cool too

(quoted from post at 09:17:44 07/16/14) Makes you wonder which half is which.

yea, now im starting to wonder myself. the plate riveted to the left side of the transmission says:
specification # 35-0044
serial # 61 326-519
tractordata says the serial #'s stop at 59-033 during or after 1958. so now im thinking it's not a super55. does anyone know how i can look up my serial # and find out what it is and what year it is. ?

hi, im located in paicines,ca. i bought the oliver in Lodi, ca. the ta in the back ground i bought brand new for my 18th birthday in 78, gosh, time sure does fly. :)

(quoted from post at 14:54:19 07/16/14) Ya,right here on YT. That number seems to put it at a 1958 550.
YT serial numbers

ok, thanks, it looks like im the proud owner of a 550, im good with that. :)
but im still wondering if it's a mutt though, someone said something about the gas cap and radiator cap and embossed fenders and what have you not. how can i find out what to replace so it will be all 550 ?

okay jennifer, i have the semi that matches your TA!!

i AM going to get one for a match set, the guys at the CO-OP cant stop laughing when i pull up during harvest HAHA

if you need parts Dolk Tractor over in Rio Vista is
a great old Oliver / White dealer. Meyer Ward down
near Lemoore tractor salvage has lots of Super 55's
for parts also. They will have a correct dash for
that tractor if you want to change it out

That is a 550 serial number and specification number. Call the museum and get a build card to see when it was built and how it was equipped. Does the tractor run? J.

ok, thanks, they have a website, i also have a 9n that i want to get some parts for, i'll give them a call as soon as i win the lottery. mapquest says it's 2hours 37 mins from me so that's a trip that i want to make count. now im not sure if the dash is wrong now, im looking at pics that i googled and i see my dash so it's probably correct, hail, i don't know, but im gonna have fun learning. :)

yes, thank you, i looked it up. call what museum and get a build card. ?

Post your serial number and we can tell you what you have for
sure. It is a 550 dash with sure 55 hood and grill. Fenders can
go either way. Overall it does not really matter. Enjoy

i have not seen it run yet, the guy said that it was idling really fast and he didn't know how to get the idle down so he shut it down as soon as he could figure out how to turn it off. it does not have the knob that you pull to get it to stop. there is no cable hooked up to where he said he pulled up to get it to stop, but you can see that a cable probably hooks up there somehow. he gave me a shop manual with it and was trying to answer all of our questions as best as he could, he said it was his dads and that his brother had it for a few years, he said he wish he had paid more attention to his dad when he had the chance, i don't believe he was lie-ing (spell check can't even figure it out) to me. i wanted to start it anyway but i noticed that the fan belt was gone, i asked him where it was and he said it flew off when he started it. by the way, does anyone know what size belt fits an oliver 550 ? the hoses don't look too promising so i am going to replace them and the belt and the oils and fluids and filters and etc...in case i forgot to mention anything. also before i start it im going to hook back the throttle linkage and get the shut off figured out and replaced. anyway, i already know im gonna have a lot of questions for the good folks here at YTC but first i will study the shop manual so i can ask intelligent questions. thanks everyone. :)

i already posted the numbers, here they are again.

Hey it's got rear wheel weights too! All those implements are very nice to have. Is only the cable missing on the injector pump for the shut off? Not sure exactly what it looks like on a 550, but there probably is a shut off plate at the bottom of the control on the right side of the pump. At the bottom is the shut off plate. That's where the cable attaches with a small clamp. I wouldn't want a diesel engine running that I couldn't shut off. Could run off on you if you can't stop either the fuel or air.

So with all this talk of a "hybrid" tractor, how bad was Oliver when it came to using leftover parts from previous years? The reason I asked is that I used to have an Aerostar van that was all factory, but Ford used quite a few parts on it from the previous year. Parts that the parts book said shouldn't have been on it. Was Oliver ever guilty of this?

Constantly. There are some tractors out there that shouldn't exist for sure.
I don't think this one came from the factory like it is though. The "Improved" Super would have come between that early fuel tank and hood and the 550.

well, that's one of the reasons im going to go thru it before i start it, i may have fell off the turnip truck, but it wasn't yesterday. :)

ya beat me to it.....went to look and it was allready gone.........did you have to give his asking $$, it sounded like a fair price even before looking, does it have power steering ,Jack

i sorry,
yes, i did give him the asking price. i felt he was an honest man, asking an honest price. normally i would try and jew a bit, but this time i took him at face value. some times you can look a person in the eye and know, that's what i did and i feel great about my decision. no buyers remorse. can't find where to put the steering fluid in so it is manual, but it seams to turn easy enough and i got a tractor with bucket on it with that fancy power steering, so she will never be subject to such a burden any who. :)
