Super 88 12v or 6v?

I recently bought a non running super 88 with no battery. It"s a 1955 with green wheels. How can I tell what battery I need? Thanks,

Gas or diesel? The 1955 gas was 6,the diesel was 12. That's not to say somebody hasn't changed things. If it has the original generator,a 6 volt will be the same diameter all the way from end to end. A 12 volt will be smaller for the last inch and a half or so at the back end around the brushes,as a general rule.
If somebody has cobbled an alternator on it,it'll be 12.

Look at the Delco tag on the starter. It will say 6v or 12v.

It"s a gas and the generator is the same diameter the whole length. It looks fairly original, so I guess I"ll try a 6 volt battery and see what happens.
