1650D Idle speed

I recently bought a two row mechanical transplanter model 6000 unit. The planters have a rotary carousel that an operator drops plug plants into. The planter is ground driven. I am using it with a 1650D with direct injection . Running the tractor in first gear low range at idle, the carousel turn too fast for the operators to keep up dropping tbe plugs in. Idle speed is at 1100 RPM. Can I set the idle down a few hundred Rpm? The planter is very easy to pull and puts no noticeable load on the tractor.

my 1650 idle is set at 750, but I don"t think you should run it all day long at that low of rpm. If running continuously I would look at some way to gear down? I used to plant cabbage seedlings years ago, and there was two people for every row, so you only had to hit every other shoe. Is this what you are doing or is 1 person doing it?

Thanks Tom. There are is one operator for each planter unit. At this point I don't need to run the tractor very long while using the planter. I am just trying to get experience with the planter unit. If I were to plant acres, I would need to figure out how to gear the tractor down. Would an over/under hydra shift from a 1655 give a slower ground speed?

Over/under hydraul shift should be same speed in low range as hydra-power drive.
Oliver did offer a 'creeper drive' transmission for operations like you are describing.
I would think you could turn the idle down at least for experimenting.

Actually the 3 speed over/under trannys were faster in the low range than the 2 speed hydra power units. The 2 speed hydra-power unit reduced speed 26% from the direct speed and the 3 speed hydrual-shift unit reduced speed 20% from the direct speed if I remember correctly.
