I talked to Maibach Tractor and Obrien County Implement this morning to see if either had a new plunger knife for a 620. No luck either place. I am still using a reliable 60T, but I would like to get this long term 620 project done and see if I like it. When I have the time, I will check with my favorite machine shop or a fab shop to see if they can make me one. The ledger knife is still in excellent shape, but the plunger knife appears to have been fabricated out of something softer, maybe mild steel, and is worn enough on the bottom half that it measures .031" when the top half measures a tight .003" I am not sure I want to roll it over under pto power with the top this tight. The plunger has all new roller bearing in it, but still. Does anyone know what grade of steel plunger knives are made of? Does anyone know how tight you can run knives on a roller bearing plunger? The operator manual says less than .040". If I had a nice unworn plunger knife, I would like to try to run it at .015" to .020".
