Well with some luck I managed to get it modified welded and painted and put on the 1550 utility. I had plenty of room to work with and a nice big hole in the hood and from the looks of it it had an even bigger hole in it at one time. But its on and sounds good and it dose not look that bad except for the hole in the hood. Cant win them all. Bandit

Nice job welding that lower adaptor on the muffler. I do not think that adaptor (or muffler) would have lasted very long, as well as not leaked, going on the outside of the muffler if you had utilized a traditional muffler clamp alone.

Your welding of the joint fixes lots of fit up issues. Did you mig it, tig it? (Likely too thin to stick weld it I would think).

I have a mig welder I used on it and I was having feed issues and it's .045 wire witch is a bit much for thin metal but it works and you do what you have to do to make it work. One of these days I really need to learn to mig weld better than I do, This is what you get when you buy a mig welder and just start welding and figure it out as you go. Got to love the barn yard university! Bandit

Wow 0.045 wire. You did real good. I do not think I could have welded that thin of metal with that big of wire size in a wire feeder.

I am only a hack, but 0.023 or 0.030 solid wire (and gas) or if forced to use flux core then 0.030 would be my preference - although I could likely make 0.035 flux core work too in a pinch.

Anyway nice job. I went to the same welding school as you too. Maybe one of these days I will finally graduate Barnyard University.

I use a 115 volt wire feed welder with gas to weld up the holes in hoods from hack jobs. Works great, just smooth the rough edges and trace a piece of metal and weld it in from the bottom side.

Thanks guys! It will take some time to get all the bugs worked out of her but I will get her back to what she should be. This is just one of the things on a list to be done and there are plenty more to do. This may not be a perfect fit but with a big hole in the hood what the heck I can fill the hood in and make it look right. Now to paint the rear rims and the light brackets and finish the paint clean up. Lots of elbow grease in this on. The other 2 1550s are a little miffed at all the attention this one is getting.
