cyl. head valve recess spec.? 310T engine - 1855 tractor

is there a spec. for valve recess for a 310 T. diesel engine , have a original shop manual and it says nothing on the subject , thanks for any help also does anyone know where you can buy new valves, having a heck of a time finding them after market , wouldnt think it would be so hard this is a common engine used in lots of industrial equipment , guess ill call Agco dealer & i know that will hurt the wallet

310 valve kit..includes guides in and ex valves, springs and keepers around $320 at http://www.agkits.com/

I would not worry about valve recess, take the head to a engine shop and have the seats ground...they'll tell ye if they are within specs or not,...they usually are but a hair to deep won't hurt a thing.

I have it downstairs on a sheet but it is important. It makes starting a lot better. I will double check but exhaust are 0.026 -0.041 Intakes 0.14 to 0.029 Keep them as close to the maximum as possible. When I got close I would swap valves to make sure I could get them all with in 0.005. You will need seats in all 12 ports and with a dial indicator mounted on the seat and guide machine you can do it. Head torque is also different than what is in some manuals. Intakes protrusion is important because of the larger surface area. I would also change the valve settings as well. Send me a phone number and I will explain it.

Look at how much surface of the cylinder head is the intake and exhaust valves.  Turn the head upside down and install the valves.  Intake valve should project .014" to .029" Exhaust should project .026" to .034".  If you want it to start good run as it should the closer to the maximum numbers listed is better.  You may have to install new valve seats and/or new valves to get the proper measurements.
Non AGCO parts have been giving us some problems.  After market cylinder head gaskets are too thick as compared to NOS.  Also if you are installing new aftermarket pistons we have seen some with the machined recession for the exhaust valve that are machined too deep.  these two items will reduces compression rato and causes hard starting and a poor running and performing engine.  Mesure everything before reassembly if you want it to run as a good Oliver should.

just did the 310 overhaul in 2013 and bought everything from agkits (red power brand). have 200 hours on the overhaul and still running great. also there is a service bulletin out there (cant think of it right off, so do a search on this site) for setting valve protrusion
