I just found this one coming up on an online auction this coming Thursday. I went through the picture slideshow. Kind or unusual. Has the Wheatland style front axle,Charlynn style power steering but has a 3 point,no hydrapower two speed. Might be worth keeping an eye on.
Green Cockshutt 1555

Thanks for posting. The more you look at it makes you wonder what it was used for. Noticed it seems to have pressed rear wheels. Could it have been painted red at one time?

Got me wondering the same. They don't show a picture of the tag to see if it says Brantford or Chicago.
With the shaft steering and no 2 speed,it has the attributes of a 1555 "Loader Special" but this one has a 3 point. 30 inch tires too makes it unusual. A utility I guess.

That is not factory power steering; its the same as the kit I put on my 88.
Woulda thought a "loader special" would have had that from factory.
They posted the spec number but not the serial #.

Chris Losey and Robert Penn (RP1555) know the story behind the green Cockshutts. Maybe one of them will comment.
Probably not a loader special with the standard front axle. I would just guess a special would have the underslung front.

A few years back I remember a chat with a collector about his stripped-down green Cockshutt 1555. If I recall correctly, he said that a number of them had been specially built and stripped down for an export contract from Canada to an Eastern European nation (maybe Romania??) and some cold war incident halted some of the shipments. And so these machines were dumped into the North American market.
The green Cockshutts are fairly common but the stripped down ones are less common.
It would be nice to get more info.

they were built as oliver rice fields, for a 300 tractor contract with s.vietnam.only a few were shipped. after getting stuck with the remainder of the tractors, oliver changed the spec number, changed the decals to cockshutt, and sent them to ontario.the power steering on most of them was dealer installed in canada.all had 3pt. pto, dirt shields on the op.platform, and 18.4-30 rear wheels.and 7.50-18 fronts.no hydra power.

I have seen several standard Olivers like this over the years at London Ohio at the sale barn. This one is a standard with the added power steering and 3pt but the odd thing I see is it has the same transmission as my 1550 utility, It has the high speed transmission. This is one I wouldn't mind having as it is an odd ball and I like them that way. Bandit

If any of you guys want to bid on it,let me know. I don't want to see it go to somebody who won't know what it is or won't appreciate it,but if one of you who collect the 4 digits to a larger extent than I do want it,I'd just as soon see you get it.
If you don't want to say so on here, drop me an email and let me know.

Good info here about the history.
There are many green Cockshutt implements around, like manure spreaders, plows, sickle mowers, etc, so are there any [b:336578eb15]other[/b:336578eb15] model tractors that are Cockshutt green?

550Doug, I've seen green side panels from a 1600 that say
Cockshutt and look original. They came from rp1555, perhaps he knows more about them.

At least with the online auction you have time to think about it. I was bidding on something a few months ago on there. When I figured the premiums in I figured I'd gone far enough.
