sorry for this may be a long post, however, I started this project in November as a full 100% restoration, with the intention in showing it July 5. I have put my heart, soul and every penny I've earned ( and even borrowed a few thousand) to get this thing done. So at this point, I have a rolling chassis, with a motor set in place, everything internal installed, and basically ready for a test fire. All I want is the thing running for a few seconds and I will feel confident finishing the project.
Here is where I am with the engine and could use some tips.
[b:f448a9cb26]IGNITION/TIMING[/b:f448a9cb26]
cam/crank were properly timed, I did NOT realize (or pay attention) to the positioning of the oil pump when installing, but was lucky enough that it just so happens to have the #1 TDC on compression and rotor facing front and allows me to install the distributor facing forward. the problem is im still not getting a response when testing. This also was converted to electronic ignition.
I have rebuild the carb, so have the screws all the way in and then backed out 1-1/2 turns, is this correct to start?
I DO have a spark from each plug when grounded I did get a pop from the exhaust, and one backfire. Realized that this is a 1342 pattern and not a 1243 so I now have that corrected.
OIL: I have all the lines hooked up, but realized that I did not have a "port" for the PSI gage. Im thinking where I put a 90 at the top of the head, should in fact be a 'T" is this correct?
lastly. I have a bad generator, Im not sure I can get it rebuild before Friday, IF I were to get the machine running and ready for the 1 mile parade will a battery supply enough power for the parade, and then maybe a start to get on the trailer to get it home? I will install the generator and ether remove the brushes, or not wire it until I can get the thing rebuilt.
I'm sure there will be more questions, but with my time at the Fire station, I literally have 2 days between now and when I show it and am a bit nervous due to the amount of work I have left. so the more info I can get and have in my mind when im able to grab wrenches may speed things up.
