1550 Utility clean up

With all the rains and planting done I finally got to put some elbow grease on the old girl. I did get all her new shoes on and the front rims back center castings and grill painted. Then using some paint cleaner on the hood and side panels to get the color back(frame is what the side panels looked like). I took her down to the local Oliver Doctor this morning to have the hydrolices looked at. Broken key on one hydrolic lever (internal) so it got fixed, Bad news is the pump is shot and is going to need a new one at some point this year. He did put another shim in the relieve valve to help keep the presser up so I can keep using it for now. Over the last couple days I have moved the fenders in got the back rims adjusted in (very fun 6'2" wide now) and dismounted the 2 front tires painted them and mounted the new tires plus all the other work. When I get her done she will look good and she will be right inside and out. She dose have all her new shoes on now and still in her working cloths. Still have some more sheet metal to clean the paint up on to get the color back. Why do I keep doing this? I guess I just like old tractors, I think I need to see the doctor now. Bandit

Nothing there that a coat of paint (after preparation)would not fix. Panels look quite good.

But I fail to understand how extra shims in the relief valve would help a pump. Pressure relief is for when the pump would produce too much pressure?

If it helps, then likely the PRV needs serious attention?

It dose, Its only putting out about 850 psi out of the hydrolic pump. The extra shim is to insure the steering keeps working, The relieve valve was a little cruddy (he cleaned as best as he could) and he said it will help keep it from leeking and holding pressure. He said by the looks of it it still has the original pump in it. When I bought it the hydrolics had water in it and was milky, Drained it (out of the hoses) and put new oil in. How long it was this way I don't know, Problem 2 was the hydrolic filter was in cock eyed and was missing the spring so none of the oil was filtered and he thinks that be part of the pumps problem. A new pump and a good flush of the system is about all that will fix it now. What the heck, Its only money! Bandit
