Oliver 1855 with a gasoline engine runs about 250 yards then quits. Then it will start up again after a few seconds. Previous owner bypassed the fuel pump so it is gravity flow, and still has good fuel flow to carb. Ignition coil is warm but not to hot, could it be the condensor? Before it quits it seems to sputter some. Thanks for any advice.

Simple to check the spark for presence or weakness if it quits that regularly?

Does it have the opportunity to check the fuel flow from the carb (not to it)?

I would guess it is more likely fuel related, but can only be just guessing without actually knowing the simple facts to make a diagnosis.

Try pulling the choke control when it starts to die. If it runs on for a few seconds, that should give you another clue.

Preumably the previous operator removed the fuel filter at the time of bypassing the pump? Maybe not such a good move?

Just bought an 1850 gas, some of the guys round here remember their time with them. One mentioned a fuel boiling problem they tried everything to fix.
Would cause the tractor to stall and start again after it cooled a little. Only did it when the temps were hot out.

The one I have has a similar problem except it's the coil wire, thing pops right out of the cap. Runs rough till it falls completely off. Took me some frustrating times to figure it out.

I'd fix the pump problem regardless. Few threads on here complain about them not being enough when they work as they should and put electric ones on. When I shut the gas cock off on mine the weakness of the pump shows up and starting is rough. If I leave it open, it pops right off and runs smooth instantly.
