88 running poor,

I have an 88 puller,unloaded from trailer,wheel fell off,tractor sat til I had time to fix,it ran fine,after welding on wheel,tractor surges very bad,no power,sounds funny in the exhaust,almost like a valve is out.Could welding have hurt ignition? Points look good.

Yes it could. I fried my coil out by doing 4 little 1 inch welds on the loader mounts on my 830 case this weekend. drove it up to the shed, shut it off and welded and it would not start. finally reduced it to a bad coil. I replaced the coil and it took right off. I have ruined an alternator doing it too!
