Electronic ignitions for 1800 A Series

Give me the good, bad and ugly about installing an electronic ignition in this old tractor. Do I need to put a new coil and plug wires on? I converted this tractor to 12 volt negative ground years ago. Delco-Remy distributor number is 1112603. I read other posts on this, but not recently. I am thinking about a Petronic, are there others? If so, which is most desirable?

Thanks in advance.

Can't speak for the 1800,but I've had a Pertronix on my 1550 for quite a few years. It solved every ignition problem I had with it. I didn't change the wires or the coil. I just installed it and went.

I did the same. I've only used one of the hot coils on a fork lift.I've used them on worn out holly distributors mostly.

Worth every penny we have had the same one in our 88 for 15
years never had an issue money well spent we use the hot coil
as well

It's been over ten years since I put a Pertronix on my brother's F600 Ford grain truck. I have nothing against contact points, but the distributor cam had gotten worn so bad on his truck that it was hard to accurately adjust a set of points. There is a hill that we have to climb when going to the local grain elevator and when the truck was fully loaded with 500 bushel of grain, it would barely crawl up the hill in second gear. Now it will accelerate up the hill in third gear. It's also been nice not having to buy points for it anymore, especially since the quality of ignition parts has been going down hill.
It's been well worth the money.
