I recently picked up my second Cockshutt 290 plough. The first one I have is so rusty that no original paint remains, however this latest one has a lot of original cream paint on it. To me that confirms that it was likely built about 1959 or 1960, making it a true Cockshutt design.
The rusty one is a 4 furrow unit with the FRONT furrow removed, making it a 3f unit. I haven't come across any other plough that is designed to remove the FRONT furrow. Although I think I read somewhere on this forum that the Oliver 565 may have this design.
I also have an Oliver 4340 plough and the similarities between it and the 290 are striking. So my questions are:
1.Did the Oliver use the Cockshutt plough designs and upgrade them after 1962?
2. Are there any other ploughs that are designed to remove the FRONT furrow?
Thanks
