Oliver subsoiler

You said Are they quite rare? That is a relative term. There were quite a few in Northwest Ohio in the old black swamp. They were used to break up the hardpan or plow sole as some called it. They were popular in the 1950 & 1960's. liver also later came out with sub soiler teeth that attached to a plow. Everybody that bought them took them off in about 2 years. Yes they worked good, they puller harder and most farmers did not like that.

Another example of Oliver being ahead of its time. The concept is used today. Every farmer around here has a deep ripper usually six shanks.
They usually go from 12 to 18 inches deep. My friend has a 3 point hitch model on a JD 8650 and 18 inches in clay it really pull hard.
