delay in pto and brakes engaging on 1855

Have been having problems with the pto not engaging right away. It has a significant delay and it doesn't really matter what the engine speed is. I use this tractor for my smaller sprayer which is pto driven. Checked out the sprayer pump and there is no real resistance. While spraying the other day, I noticed that the brakes do not engage right away either. Ended up pulling the boom out of the socket on one case and fixing the end nozzle on another. The pedal seems to go all the way down and then eventually will pressure up to where the brakes work normally. Any suggestions as to where I should start.

Yes there was an update to larger brake lines. There is also a tiny orifice in the brake valve under the inlet line fitting that can get plugged with tiny bits of steel or o-ring. But if your brakes and PTO are both affected you need to check the pressure at the PTO valve you can plumb a gauge into the inlet line of the PTO valve the pressure should be somewhere between 185 and 210 psi. The pressure reducing valve in the control valve assembly controls this pressure.

I had a problem like that about 30 years ago. Memory is a little foggy. I think I took the floor panel off. Not sure what its called, but the block towards the right side that went to the brake valves and I think pto had some little pieces in it. Did not know where they came from.
I do not know if this is the first thing you want to take apart. But, if nothing else works, you might want to keep this in mind.

Is the pressure reducing valve the same assembly CAS mentioned in his response? I will check my book when I get out to the farm later this week

The part Cas is referring to is a square block that is bolted to the top of the trans. housing. It is just a tee block where the low pressure supply line goes in and the brake valve line and the PTO pressure line comes out. It is possible something could be caught in there but that would be very unusual. The first thing and easiest thing to check is the PTO pressure. The control valve assembly is located next to and below the hyd. pump. The different valves are labeled. Usually when the pressure is low the PTO will kick out when you apply the brakes.

You got that right. Never saw that problem before or after. I would definitely do your procedure first. Forgot to mention thats what I did.
