Hi,
I am going to look at a 1550 that is for sale and I was curious if there were 1000pto shafts available for this model??

There were 2 PTO options when the tractors were new.The most common one is the 540 PTO with a gear case similar to what was used on an Oliver since the first 88 models. It could also be ordered as a 1000 RPM unit. Option 2 was what was referred to as the dual speed PTO. You can have either a 540 or 1000 RPM unit by just changing the output shafts. However both gears must be on the inside. It can be identified by a round pot type cover held on by 4 5/16 inch cap screws. I don't think too many were sold with that option since the horsepower of a 1550 is lower than what most implements that use a 1000 RPM require.

Thank you for the help!! I will look for that on it when I go later. It would just be a bonus feature because its a gas tractor, to run a backup pto generator without having to keep the tractor revved up to get 540 pto speed.

Here's something you need to consider. What size generator will you be running, and more important how much LOAD? A 1550 will run a 25KW at full load with no problem, at full PTO speed. But you have to remember that it does not produce full HP when slowed down. For 10 or 12 KW, you probably would be okay. Also remember engine cooling will be reduced, because of lower fan speed.

Definitely good points!! It is a 20KW generator, but everything in the house is natural gas luckily and it really doesn't take much to run it at all, it would be lucky to draw 7-8KW. And if I decided I did need to weld or do something in the shop I would plug in and get one of my bigger diesels running.

Ok, figured out how to get pics on here. The pto picture isn't real clear, but you can see a big snap ring with the ends pointing down right next to the support bearing. I assume this retainer comes off and if you had the second shaft you would swap them then??

Generator reminds me of a farmer that kept his 77 on the generator that would always start then he could get the bigger tractor started he made the mistake of having the generator on the big tractor once and the power was off and he couldnt get it started after that it was on the 77
