I'm looking to rebuild the seat assembly on my 770. Been rereading the article in Oliver Heritage on the rebuild. The author recommends 1" and 3/4" four-fluted core drill bits for the installation of the bushings, anyone done this project using standard drill bits in these sizes? How did it work out for you? The prices for these bits alone are half the price of purchasing a whole new assembly from Korves, and I doubt I'd ever use them enough to warrant their cost. I'm also asking some friends if they have these bits I can borrow for the project.
Without tearing it apart, I know already I need new torsion springs, seat gears that attach to the springs, and possibly the shackles and the adjuster. The U-shafts and main seat support I think I can reuse by building up what is worn and filing them back to round. I have not yet priced the parts, may be cheaper to just replace the whole assembly with one from Korves.
