770 seat rebuild or buy new

I'm looking to rebuild the seat assembly on my 770. Been rereading the article in Oliver Heritage on the rebuild. The author recommends 1" and 3/4" four-fluted core drill bits for the installation of the bushings, anyone done this project using standard drill bits in these sizes? How did it work out for you? The prices for these bits alone are half the price of purchasing a whole new assembly from Korves, and I doubt I'd ever use them enough to warrant their cost. I'm also asking some friends if they have these bits I can borrow for the project.
Without tearing it apart, I know already I need new torsion springs, seat gears that attach to the springs, and possibly the shackles and the adjuster. The U-shafts and main seat support I think I can reuse by building up what is worn and filing them back to round. I have not yet priced the parts, may be cheaper to just replace the whole assembly with one from Korves.

It should really be reamers, not core bits. If you don't have them and neither do your friends, you can bring them to a machine shop that does farm repair. They should have the reamers and will cost you only a few bucks to have them reamed to size.

That's if they even need to be reamed. Since they are just oil lite bushings, they don't always need to be reamed once installed. Only way to know is to try it. I rebuilt the seat fir my 1600 and non of those bushings needed to be reamed out. Everything was a good fit right from the start.

There is also the home repair way of doing it with a sanding roll on a die grinder or dremel.

Just because there is a preferred way of doing it, don't think that's the only way. Sometimes you just have to make due with what you've got.

Thanks for the help Don. I'm usually
good at thinking outside the box, but
hadn't thought of going to a machine
shop. There's always more than one way
to skin a cat!
