New to me Super 55 gas tractor

First time owner of an Oliver Super 55 tractor.
Just picked it up this weekend. Am looking to
figure out the serial number and the tractor code
number. Numbers I have are tractor code number 15-
0005 and the serial number (from memory) 16-678-
518. Any thoughts? Am thinking it"s a 1955 if I
have figured it out.

The pto runs when tractor is on. I have moved the
lever both ways and it does nothing. Haven"t tried
to see if the pto stops at some point so I"m not
sure if the handle is actually doing something at
all. Any ideas? It has a leak around the shaft I"d
like to fix as well. Were the seals leather or
not? Any help on this would be great.

It is a 1955 model. How long is your PTO handle? Early ones had a shorter handle than the later ones. Sounds like your PTO clutch needs adjustment to start with.

Do you feel a "snap" when you try to engage? Under the center section of the tractor you will see a small plate held on with four cap screws. You can take that off to adjust and inspect the PTO clutch. If it needs work you will have to split the tractor. Sometimes, the pto spins even when not engaged but will not have any power behind it. I wouldn't grab it to check, but you could put some friction against it with a board to see if it's just freewheeling.

Ya that's what I thought when I saw the tractor. Will it bother to have it run like it is for a bit before I repair it?

What's that other number 15-0005? I know nothing about this brand of tractor yet. I'd like to get better idea of what I have bought.

Meter says 319 hrs. think that could be right? How do you tell if the gauge was replaced?

Thanks guys for the help so far.

It won't hurt to leave it, but your PTO won't be live, meaning if you hook up anything, it will be running as long as the tractor is. I doubt if the tachourmeter is only 319 hours. My lawn tractor has that much on it. Are you sure it works at all? Got any pics of your tractor? Is it in good shape other than the PTO?

Super 55 the tach works. It may have been replaced since this tractor is 60 years old this year. I'll get a picture or two to show you guys the tractor and the gauges.

Didn't think the tractor was to bad for the age. It popped right off after sitting the winter. Purrs like brand new. I had to give 1700 for it but I think it's well worth the money spent. Far better that what they seem to compare it to an 8N Ford. Not that I'm bad mouthing a Ford but they are not the same.

I'll have to get to that PTO and see if there is any adjustments to it. If not well it may be July before I get time to see the insides. Got to say the wheels being 28's and loaded with additional steel weights are well lets say darn heavy. Had to take them off and turn them around to narrow it up to get it on the trailer before I cam home with it. Gotta say don't want one of those getting away from me.

Here's some pictures of the tractor.

Any idea where I can get that center grill name plate?
