oliver 550 brake shaft seal

From earlier post reference brake shaft oil leak. I had the same problem after changing seals shafts were ok after a couple months started leaking again. I bought some BLUE DEVIL oil stop leak Instruction said for engine oil leak label also states can be used for pinion shafts and rears. I put it in the transmission filler drove it around as instructed. NOT one drop of oil leak around brake shafts since. I put it in last October

Thanks for that post. I have a drip leak coming out the PTO shaft on my Super 55. I was going to pull the PTO cover and install a speedy sleeve and a new oil seal, but I might give this stuff a try.

On my early Super 55, just about everything related to the transmission that can leak does leak. The PTO shaft seal is very easy to replace, but I haven't even tried to replace the brake shaft seals. How tough are they to access and replace?

They are easy to replace, but you have to drain the transmission oil. Look for wear notches on the shaft. You may want to have a new one made if it is too badly worn. It's only a round bar with a couple of key ways in it. I actually have a stainless one a friend happened to have laying around his shop. It will never wear out.
