Identify engines 88 77

I have to show someone how to tech tractors for some tractor pulls. What is the easiest way to identify an 88 engine in a 77? Thanks.

Casting letters on the block is the easy eat way 88 have k in the casting 77 has letter M on the block 66 L someone else feel free to step in here if I'm wrong the 7 main 310 will bolt in I can't remember what the casting number is on them I can look tomorrow and see what it is if you need me to

Block casting numbers for 88 start with 190xxx. 77 are 185xxx.

Thanks for the info so far. It's always hard to have to open side panels to verify what someone else is claiming. At least we want to be sure of our facts before we disqualify for not having a stock block.

Later replacement blocks will have a 6 digit number that replaced the 1K100* numbers .You have e-mail I can look up the numbers and send them to you.
