Thought I would add my 500 story to the heap. Purchased tractor in Dec. 2012 Didn't think it was in too bad of shape at the time, but the more I got into it, the more things I found wrong. To date - rebuilt motor, transmission, generator, starter, fuel pump, water pump, re-cored the rad, all new wiring, cross over box with lids, new clutch, hydraulic pump, unseized the brakes, added new brake lining and seals.
Most parts are available through Case IH, Sparex and Peter Williams David Brown Parts in England.I had no luck going through AGCO, even doing a dealer search for parts. Pricewise, probably a little more expensive than a US built Oliver. The grill screen was reproduced by Tom Jones in Ohio, excellent quality and I was fortunate enough to acquire a NOS grill emblem.
Here in SW Ontario it has been too cold and wet to sandblast, prime and paint the last few parts (hood, rims and seat) but hopefully I can get it done in the near future as I would like to have the tractor finished by Aug 1 for our Chapter summer show.
The 500's were sold in Canada, but not the 600's. Right now, there are 2 500's (one gas, one diesel)listed on Kijiji in Eastern Ontario. Before and after pictures and the last one is the one that keeps me from spending all my time and money on the tractor, my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. Aw shucks darn. And she knows what an Oliber is.
