Oliver 3241/3242 plow questions

I am looking to buy a 3 pt 3 bottom Oliver plow. Does anyone know the differences between the 3241 and 3242 plow? Is there much difference between a 14" and 16" plow? Are the wear parts for these plows still available? I did a google search and did not find any definite parts sources. I will use it for small fields, gardens, and plow days mainly. Thanks

Maybe somebody will know more differences, but about the only difference I can see is the arch for the top link.
As far as parts, there are stores that sell iron for those. Depends on where you live. Ask around. Here it's Fowlers Farm City, but that doesn't do you any good.
Places like Shoup if you want to mail order heavy iron parts.

At one time I owned one of each model. There are to many differences to list them all.

As far as witch model would work best, A lot would depend on what model of tractor you will be using the plow with.

As for parts, C.T or T.H.E. will have all the parts you will need.

With a U302 there is good news/bad news.

The good news is, you have enough tractor to handle the weight of a 3240, 3241 or a 3242 three bottom plow. A Cat 1 hitch would work O.K., but if you could find one with a Cat 2 hitch it would work better.

The bad news is, as you may or may not know, your tractor has load OR depth control, but not both. You will need a guage wheel on the plow to do a decent job of plowing.

Thanks for the info. I did not know about the draft control problem. Is this just an issue with a full mount plow? I would guess because the draft control raises and lowers the front of the plow, which of course effects the rear? I have never plowed with a full mount, and haven't plowed period for probably 25 years which is when Grandpa, and my Uncle stopped plowing. This will just be a plow to use in the garden, maybe a few small fields, and on plow days. I have found a 3241 set on 16's not too far from me.

The 3 point draft control problem is with most all Moline tractors, as well as some other makes. Thank fully not with all Olivers.

You will need a operators manual. Also remember you will be able to change the width of cut as well as reduce the number of bottoms to two. That is what is nice about Oliver plows.

Sounds like your in for a learning experence.

Plowed many acres with a U302 and a 3 bottom mounted plow without a gauge wheel. It held as consistent depth as any Oliver I have seen. If you wanted to go deeper you set the stop farther down or vise versa. I can't see where you would need a gauge wheel...especially for what you are describing.
