White 2-105 PTO Speed

I have a 105 that I just had on the dyno and it put out 120 hp. It has a 540 PTO shaft but was running at 1000 rpm. Someone said that you just have to shift something under the rear end to change the speed. Is it that easy or what do you do.

Not sure why the reference to 120 horse power, but you perhaps need the multi-splined shaft if you intend using all that power through the pto. 75kW is regarded as the upper end for a 540 shaft, I believe?

Maybe they were only using a slower engine speed on lower powered equipment? But a bit dodgy, being able to overspeed the driven machinery by around 100%!

Yep, get it changed; it must be relatively simple, but I don't know how they did it on that tractor.

On the lower right corner there is a shaft held in place by a bolt underneath. Loosen that bolt, screw in a 3/8 bolt in the end of the shaft and pull it out. You may need to rotate the stub shaft by hand while pulling to line up the gears. It's that simple.

To use a 21 spline shaft for 1000 rpm, just get the stub shaft and swap it out with the 6 spline. In is 1000 rpm, it is 540. Should be right in the casting too.

A 2-105 and a 1950 could both have a 540 and a 1000 rpm PTO. If they have a 2 speed PTO they will have a shift rod in the lower right hand corner of the PTO casting. Cast into the housing will be the position the shifter needs to be in for the two speeds. But do not shift it with the 540 shaft in that way you do not have to worry about messing up the safety mechanism built into them to prevent running the 540 shaft in a 1000 speed. You need to get an owners manual and it will show you how to do it
