the recent discussion about lube pump on 1655 got me to thinking; what is the serial # break on transition from counter-shaft driven to chain driven? is the chain driven on the I.P.T.O. shaft like the bigger 55 series tractors? last; Mr. Schwieberts suggestion to keep in the lower neutral, does that just apply in a failed lube pump situation?

Pump drive was changed for the last lot of tractors that were built in 1975 as I recall.   There were 463 1655 tractors built in lot 75230, S/N 262 878 to 263 340.  Don't bet the farm on those numbers.

[b:654c4848f0]Low range:[/b:654c4848f0] Low gear is locked to the shaft, it drives the countershaft which in turn drives the high range gear.   lets assume that the input shaft is turning at 2200 RPM, the high range gear is now turning at 1285 on it's bushing that's turning at 2200.

[b:654c4848f0]High range:[/b:654c4848f0] High range gear is now locked to the input shaft driving the counter shaft which in turn is driving the low range gear.  Again assuming the input shaft is turning at 2200, the low range gear is now turning on it's bushing at 3754 RPM.  I think you need lubrication.

Shift the O/U drive to overdrive and the numbers go up to 2772 input shaft RPM with the low range gear turning 4768 on it's bushing.

Just got ours back together replaced pump drive chain hydraulic pump and input shaft serial started at 247 if I remember right

I"d rather keep it in the high neutral position so I don"t hit the shifter with my legs as I"m getting on/off the tractor and accidentally put it in gear. If the wear is that bad, why run the high gears at all?
