Oliver 77/ Waukesha Question

I have heard of people putting Waukesha 310 and 320 engines in an oliver 77. What did those motors originate in and what do you have to do to put one in a 77? I have a 77 with a junk motor and I am wondering if its a worthwhile option. Also how do I tell if it is a 310 or 320? Thank you in advance for any help with this.

the 310 are out of the 1950-T and 1955 oliver tractors, maybe others. the reason people do this is because they want to pull with them. i can't remember but i believe the block is too long to fit in the mounting brackets of a 77 frame so either make new brackets or put a new tub on. to identify the best is by serial numbers but it might be better just to look inside. so to me if you don't plan of ever pulling with the tractor this doesn't seem like a worthwhile option to me.

What is the intended goal and how large is your checkbook? Now the 320 was only used in a M -F 1100 gas as far as tractors go. I used to see some in cranes about 25 years ago. There is also a version of that engine with dry sleeves as was used in the Oliver 99 Super 99 and 950 gas tractors. The 310 as a gas engine was used in the Oliver 1850 and 1855 gas tractors and of course Waukesha also sold the engine for other things. The 320 will look like your 77 engine the 310 will have six ports for the intake manifold and will have 2 piece cylinder heads. The 320 is hard to find parts for, if you don't believe me ask for a set of rod bearings and see what the answer is. Any more questions?

our club has a class for the tractors that have changed motors and have 310 etc in them . you will still have to modify the 310 to get enough hp out to run a 6 mph class
