Diesel Head with small cracks Oliver 1555 (Useable?)

Thanks to some help here I now realize my white 2-63-15 is not a 2-78. Has the 232 Diesel used in the 1555.

The head pulled and there are cracks found in mag test. Shop called me and said try and find another and didn't actually pressure test it.

So in reading a few threads it sounds as though the cracks are not totally abnormal and have pressure tested fine. I would not consider a head with some cracks other then its not the easiest thing to find.

What are any of your thoughts or experiences with these small cracks?

Any idea on where I can get a reasonable replacement?

Cracks are common. Get a pressure test done, if it tests OK use it. chances are it will be OK.

Get the head pressure tested. Give a very careful look to the area between the intake valve seat and the combustion chamber on #6 cylinder. Also I had some trouble reading the spec and serial numbers. Can you please repost them? Thanks. J.

Motor block has 3 sets of numbers casted
185320
160918A
5223
The head has casted 186402k. Glad to hear there is hope for the head with some small hair cracks.

The block is marinating in a diesel bath. Pistons froze from sitting. When I bought the seller thought this block would break free and just need rings. In a 1 month bathof diesel it wont budge. So I think a complete piston sleeve kit is the hot ticket. But the challenge of puling the sleeve with piston.

Set the block upside down on some wood block out in the sun or beside a good heater to warm it up.
Put a 50/50 antifreeze mixture in the freezer over night. With block warm poor the cold anti freeze into the bottom of the stuck piston. Waite 30 seconds then try to drive it out.

Don't know for sure about the 1555, but every 88 and S-88 ever made hade small cracks in the combustion area of the head. If the head pressure tests okay, don't worry about them.

Sounds like something new I just learned. Would be great if I could get away with rings if it breaks free. Looks like I may end up taking to machine shop and seeing f they can push piston and liners out. Then try and find a deal on new piston sleeve rebuild kit
