Look what I got

I traded a 1020 Deere for this 500 gas today. Serial number 100537 makes it a 1961. I was pretty surprised at just how tight and straight it really is. I wasn't expecting much. Gonna have to find a manual for it. Danged of I can figure out how to make the hydraulics work. There's more knobs on those valves than in a hardware store. I need an emblem for that grille too if anybody knows were there is one. And an original top link for the 3pt. The draft control worked off a cable that hooked to the center link.

I hope I can get around to making it look new again. A neighbor bought a diesel when I was just a youngster. Back then when somebody got a new tractor, the whole neighborhood had to go and see it. I remember my dad and uncle and I went to look at that one. I can still see that shiny new 500 sitting there on Lester's lawn.

Can you show a picture of the rear end and arms. Since that is a David Brown they had a lever to flip to disconnect the three point plus there was a control that had to be set in a certain position. If I remember right the lock out was on the left side and looked like a big comma sign. this had to be turned to engage it.

nice find i seen another real nice one on cl for 4,500 new philadelphia ,ohio.just seen it today diesel looks to be really sharp original.

Cute little bugger. My neighbor used to have a David Brown 850, that looked just like that, but a different color. I hope it's easier to get on and off then my Oliver 550.

I know that lever you're talking about. I've seen it on the DBs,but this one doesn't have it. It's hard to see anything from this picture, but way over on the right hand side, there's a lever that sticks out toward the fender. That flips up and down 90 degrees from straight up to straight out the back. I don't know if that's it or not? I need to do some tuning on the carb before I run it enough to start experimenting with things.

Nice catch. And you found the 1020 a new home in the process. 2 birds with one stone.

I remember a 500 diesel that a local lot had for a long time (years) before it sold, in the '70's. I knew the salesman pretty well, and I'm sure I could have almost stolen it- but it wasn't a collector tractor yet, and everybody just turned up their nose at it- "good luck getting parts for whatever that thing is."

I remember you've got the 1365, too- any other "offbeat Olivers" in your stable?

That's all,but I'm still looking. I'd really like to find a 600. I think I've only seen one of those in my life and it wasn't around here. I'd like to have a 1265 to go with the 1365. I told the boy that a South Bend built tractor would be nice, but the price of those is out of site. I know where there's an early OC4 with the Fleetline style grille. It was up by the guys house for a while, but they've hauled it back in a fencerow. I'd like to have that one.
I was just thinking today,9 Olivers, only 2 are diesels and neither one is a Waukesha. One Perkins and one Fiat.

That is a reall straight tractor Randy. Specially for a 1961...looks a lot better than me an I graduated HS in '60!
