500 pictures and question

A guy emailed some pictures to me today of a 500 that he wants to trade to me. It has the louvered slots in the side of the hood. He didn't give me a serial number for it. I got out the April/May 2006 HPOC magazine that featured them. It didn't appear that they all had those louvered slots. The only ones that had them in the magazine were the early ones with the checkerboard decals.
What do you think? Real early one?

DB 850. They were sold first here in the US through Oliver dealers. DB had a dealer network in Canada, but not in the US yet. There were 1648 of them sold as Oliver 500s between 61 and 63. Most were diesels, makes this little gasser kind of a rare bird.

Yes,if it's still there. The model 600s are the ones that are real hard to find. Those were a DB 990. Seems like there were only something like 5-600 of those sold. They were shorter than the DB 990. The DB had the batteries ahead of the radiator, the Oliver had them back by the seat,so the hood was shorter.

Randy: First of all they were introduced to the Oliver dealers in 1960 at least by July 1 and maybe before. Next there are 2 series the early and the late, the gas were only in the early series. The gas will have the Withworth hardware. More details maybe tomorrow if it rains.

So that's real early then, like I suspect? I wonder if Lyle has decals for it? Rick didn't have them listed, neither did Import Tractor Parts.
