Reassembly of E3 trans

Hey all, so I have a new ring and pinion, anyone who have done it have tips on getting the 4 gears and spring on the new pinion shaft? This is a complete pain in the butt! Figured I would try here and see if anyone has found a way to get them reassembled.

Make sure woodruff keys are seated in pinion shaft. Dry fit gears on table to check for possible dings and burrs. (clean up as needed)

Need to make a liner tool. Gears and spring set up on liner tool to make sure it's clocked right. A little welding with a pieces of key stock and bar stock will work. Service manual may give more detail

Squeeze gears and spring together and then use a couple pieces of wire to keep them compressed.

Set the squeezed and wired gear assembly (still on liner tool into tranny case.

Bring pinion shaft in from rear. Make sure woodruffs nearly level or have a slight tilt to front. The pinion shaft will make contact with liner tool and will push it out the front as you go.

Thank you very much, I noticed (after removing the gears) that I should have used wire, it was a pain In the butt, but I was able to get it back together (twice) I got done and realized the rear key fell out while I was tapping it together. But the rear is assembled and shimmed close. Going to get a dial indicator over the next few days to get the lash set.
