model numbers

Does anyone know what the model numbers on the data plate of a oliver 1850 mean. One of our 1850 model # is 185-2533 and the other is 285-21397. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Well you should have posted the serial nubers as well.the 285 model is newer than the 185 tractor. The model number will tell you what tractor it is eaning rowcrop, wheatland, FWA industrial, etc. Also what engine, gas, diesel or LP. It also gets into other options. You should compare the 2 tractors as far as options. You have e-mail

185-2533 is adjustable row crop front axle with Perkins diesel. 285-21397 is adjustable row crop front axle with a gas engine. 285 is the newer tractor. Of course a lot of things could have been changed through the years including the complete steering column which may include the wrong tag.

The series one tractor with an engine code of 5 ? I thought they were always 1, 2, or 3. For gas, diesel or L-P.

I just looked in my book and I found 2 1850 tractors we sold and the engine number in the spec code is a 4 in both cases. Also remember early 1850 tractors used a 4 digit umber and the later ones used a 5 digit number

Yes, that would be like our 1800 FWA. But the second digit on it is "one" which is correct for a gas engine, which it is. Just confused I guess.
