Feeding this afternoon and noticed the tach on my 1600 doing strange things, bouncing around, etc. at full throttle it was showing bout 3500 rpm's.
Looks like the hour meter was running correctly, but not sure, Is this a sign the tach is going bad or just the cable. I'd hate to lose the tach as it has the original hours on the tractor.

take the cable core out and tube it up really good- then if it still jumps around, you got a tach issue. Thats where I would start!

I had the same problem with my 1650. Cleaned and lubed the cable and sheath, put back in place and works perfect now.

The local Agco dealer had a spray can of chain and cable lube. Don't know what kind of lubricant base it really was. I'm thinking it was still the original cable and had never been cleaned before.
