6BTA in a 2655: How I Did It

Good Evening, Neighbors!
J. Schweibert and some others asked a few questions about the 2655 I re-powered back in 1996. Well, here's the short story (without photos). After removing the 585, I made an adapter plate to marry the 6B block to the M-M clutch housing. I used a standard Cummins flywheel for a 125/145 Workhorse. I used a pressure plate assembly for a 125/145 Workhorse, but the clutch disk from the 2655 (due to spline configuration). I had a machine shop manufacture a PTO hub for the flywheel, since this 2655 had PTO. I moved the front engine support back about a foot or so, as the 6B is considerably shorter than the 585. I used the same Vickers PVB/PVE hydraulic pump, but I had to change the drive shaft to get it to fit the Cummins PTO socket on the left side of the timing cover. Yes, I did use the same belt-driven hydraulic pump for the accessories. I used a Cummins-supplied 6-blade fan, but had to manufacture an 18" long fan shroud to enclose it. Once it was all done, it really ran beautifully. I took it home and ran it on our Clark chisel plow for an afternoon. Lots of fun!!! I later used some of the lessons learned to install a 6CTA into a White 2-150.
In retrospect, here are my thoughts. This particular 2655 had ALL the options: turbocharger, PTO, three-point-hitch, and factory air conditioning. By re-powering it, I basically ruined a rather low-houred, highly-optioned tractor. If I was to do it again, I would probably use a 6CT8.3 with a modest Hp rating. Also, I would borrow an idea from John Kinzenbaw: make a plate to carry the factory flywheel on a hub and bearings, and connect the factory flywheel to the Cummins flywheel with a short driveshaft. He did this on the Series II Deere re-powers.
Anyway, that project was long ago. Fun, but time-consuming and expensive. I hope you are all doing well and surviving this challenging winter. Spring will soon be here! Get those Olivers and Whites ready to go!
Blessings to all of you,
