66 oil filter drain back?

posted on oil pressure sun. for 66. took filter off and oil had all drained back is this common or am i missing something? running a carquest 85700 filter it looks right and tube hole fits tight. i had a ih 766 once they gave wrong filters for and fried motor cause of dry starts. by the way there was no restrictor disk under tube and gasket was half blocking holes in block. ordered a oil restrictor kit from ebay. thanks u guys !!! also got bypass cup out and cleaned up.

Not all filter brands are the same just because they look the same. Some have more or less filter media and most important some have checkvalves and some dont to retain some oil in them. Most olivers are a bypass filter system and only a small portion of the oil ever goes through the filter. Hope this might help. Duane.
