aybe its your new Made in India gauge that is not calibrated.

could be my guage. they are cheap but look good { ha }. runs in the very low area. haven't had a gauge on it. but how do u get that cup out ???

Well first of all I don't think you have a problem with the regulator piston (the cup as you call it). First of all in PSI with a good gauge what oil pressure do you have? Also the rods are not pressure lubricated so as you said tightening the clearance had no affect. My first thing to check would be to make sure there is a restrictor disk under the stem in the oil filter. That is what controls the oil pressure. That is a bypass system and pressure is caused by restriction to flow. That hole in that disk is about 1/16 inch in size. As far as removing the cup I have used several different methods. One is to use a tap, 7/16 N F if I remember right and I have also used a good pair of snap ring pliars. Put the tips inside the "cup" and expand the pliars and use a twisting motion. Start there.

SOMEING ELSE TO THINK ABOUT.LAST YEAR I REBUILD A 60 WITH POOR OIL PRESURE.I had to have.030 taken off the main brg journals to get it to clean up. now the needle hits the other side of the gauge.I didn't check to see what the pressure was.

Had my 66 motor completely gone through, and the master mechanic forgot to reinstall that pipe plug with the recessed head on the right front of block, wouldn't even spill oil with filter OFF. Replaced plug still running 25 years later.

You could also get one of these then you dont have to worry about losing your disc in your oil filter stem. I bought one from him but have yet to put it in.
