How do oliver 77 and the co op e 3 compare

I wanting to build a div I Div II puller for 4500 5500 class and these are 2 that I am considering I want to put a competitive tractor without going broke doing it Thanks
 
All I know is,back in the day there were a few Cockshutt 30s and 40s around here that just plain couldn't be touched by anything else.
 
Better go with the Oliver, 77 is a 6 cylinder 30 is a 4 cylinder and parts much more available for the 77.
 
I have a E3 coop I'm trying to sell. It has no problem beating 77/88s with 310s. It has 8 speeds foward 5 of which under 6mph great for mph pulling. Fits usap not natpa rules.
 
First of all I am a Cockshutt lover. I own a 30 a 35 and a 570 Diesel. I have been pulling stock antique pulls for close to ten years. I have a friend with an E3 and lots of friends with oliver 70's and 77's.My 30 will flat not pull in anything above the 4000# class. Not enough power, It is a very very rare occasion that the 30's will out pull the Olivers. Four cylinders against 6 cylinders is hard to overcome. The 30s are geared lower than the Olivers and do not have the torque of the Olivers in the higher gears.My 35 is modified some what and does very well in the 5000 thru 6000# Classes. The 570 is hard to beat and is a top 3 tractor at about every pull we go to. We pull it from 8000-11,000 lbs. I hate to say it but give me a 6 cylnder any day over a 4. As KRM stated not a lot of HI perf parts for a Buda unless you have got big bucks to have them custom made.
 
My Oliver S88 comes in under the 5500lbs class and that is with a wide front. Matter of fact I was around 150lbs light in that 5500 lbs class

Thank you guys. As much as I would love to go with a coop because not evryone has one it doesnt sound cost effective maybe i will do n Oliver 77
 
You can get a Cockshutt 40 in the 4500 lb class easily add a 273 out of a 50 with the right set up/head and you can do real well,put in a 339 Hercules gasser and blow the big Olivers off the track much less a 77.
 
Well I hate to bust anyones bubble but I have a friend that pulls a cockshutt 30 STOCK,In the antique class,It has the high low,and pulls very well from 4000 to 7000 and has pulled in 8000 but she starts to run out of power towards the end only mods are electronic ignition its on utube as well.
 
I'd like to see it hooked to my sled weighted to 7000#.My 35 is pulling 52 Hp on the Dyno and I've never seen a STOCK 30 that could hold a light to that, and I don't pull the 35 in 7000# class. Please post the You Tube link.
 
there's not much room in the 30 block and you will never make one run with even a moderate 77 build, in 4500 and up you might as well buld an 88

hat's a bit of a stretch never run with it? i believe it would beat a moderate 77
 
a 77 it appears with a 770 overbore kit can turn 55 to 60 horse if i added a turbo what class would I be legal for I think a 60 plus horse 77 would clean house at 4500 and run competitive at 5500 and i would have alot of fun with it
 
Ok I watched it. My Cockshutt 30 WF weighs 3500 lbs with driver. That means he would have to add 4500 lbs to get to 8000#. From the way the tires flattened out, I don't think there was any fluid in them. He had a lot of weight but 4500? A 30 is 153 CU IN. turning out 30 drawbar horsepower. Stock ? I'd have to see it hooked to a dyno. I have played with these old tractors too long and built way to many engines to believe everything I think I see.
 
a moderate 77 build to me is 4" pistons and an extra inch of stroke , you go ahead and build a 30 that will run with one and then after you beat that you can take on Norbert Bremmers 77 "Blue Blazes" and see how that goes! His is about the nastiest 77 I have ever seen.

oh wow im impressed with your name dropping wheres yours at you build one then i will build a 550 and drag your azz with that herc.on second thought i wouldnt even need to build a 550 i just run mine stock :wink: thats a little closer comparison troll
 
Thank you guys for your help and to the guy ranting about what will out pull who I may be new but I always heard talk is cheap if you have a grudge or something to prove please do on the track and not on my post as I am trying to learn about tractor pulling hear no disrespect intended and again thanks to all Oh and by the way going with a 77 going to try 4500 first and maybe see if I can get it to 5500
 
Curt, I would go with a super 77 for the following reasons. 1. the bull gears are much stronger. 2. The crank in the super is bigger and you can offset grind it to get a 1/4" stroke, use 77 rowcrop rods. put in a 33/4" piston/sleeve set, mill 1/8' off the top after you stroke it, install 880 or 550 valves and port the head. have the cam reground for more lift, I had Competetion Cams do mine and it picked up 10 horse @ 1600rpm on the dyno.. use a 1550 intake with a 1650 carb. and it would be best if you could get a 77 with a 9/48 ring and pinion. Mine has a little more done to it and pulls good. here is a vid. of mine and some friends pulling. good luck, Chuck

Nice I havent seen in supers for sale but i found a 77 with headwork and 770 overbore all fresh and new clutch. I am sure I could not compete with what I just seen but Do you think it would be a start for a beginner?
 
If I had it to do over again I would start with a 88. You can get them in the 4500lb. class no problem and with a simple rebuild with 37/8" pistons you will have a competitive tractor. We have a 77 that pulls with us that is built like the one you are looking and it does a pretty good job. Chuck
 
Chuck I think I am going to do the 77 I found has had some work done to engine has new clutch. I would love to pick your brain more I watched the videos and you guys have some tough olivers But i think I can afford the one I found and do okay
