My boss owns a Cockshutt 540, and the clutch plate recently came apart while pushing snow. It was my job to split the tractor. After replacing a seal and the pilot bearing, I carefully read the IT manual, and it seemed to say to torque the flywheel bolts to 75 ft. lbs. However, I snapped one of the studs off when I was trying to torque the nuts to 65 ft. lbs. What is the correct torque spec for the flywheel bolts on a 540?
I thought it was odd that there was a second brass pilot bushing installed in the crankshaft beneath the pilot bearing carrier. I now think that this crankshaft may have been a replacement out of another piece of equipment.
