1950 steering issue

We bought a 1950 that had been parked for several years due to the steering motor leaking oil out of thr steering shaft. After we got the tractor running, we removed the steering motor and installed a speedi sleeve and new seals. After we reinstalled it the steering wheel did not want to turn, after a few minutes it turned itself all the way to the left stop and won't come back. Any clue as to what we did wrong?

There is a rod inside that breaks in the spool valve.Parts hard to come by,when mine broke I just replaced steering motor with charlynn valve.Remember 1950 is open center so 55 series units will not work.Besides new old massey or gleaner combines and some allis-chalmers tractors a good place start with in salvage yards.Scott
