anyone run a stacker?

looking at a OMC stacker, this is the kind where its like a flail chopper and blows the chopped corn stalks into a box it makes a 1 1/2 ton stack. Wondering if anyone has run one like this or similar. My current big tractors are a 1800C gas and 880 and Super 88 diesels. do I have enough tractor to run this machine? its currently setup for 1000rpm and it'll need to be changed to 540, is this a big deal or just need a different gear box?

I used a Hesston stacker years ago, the 1800 should run it,except for the 1000 pto? maybe better off to just round bale the stalks. the stalks weather a little better in a round bale, they don't blow apart in windy conditions and are easier to move than a stack.i wouldn't use a stacker again. stalks keep even better when net wrapped in bale

dad had a stack hauler made years ago. he used to haul them 5 miles over to the cows, had to put 2 pieces of plywood over the top of the stack and tie ropes around them to hold them together so he could transport them. for years there were several sitting along the edge of the field that were soaked up and he could not move. I think he finally burnt them. buy a round baler.

Bad things often happen if you convert a 1000 PTO implement to 540- they're 1000 because they require more torque to run them at 540 than the PTO shaft can handle. And most tractors with enough snort to handle the 1000 PTO implements will at least have 1000 optional.

I think I'd go with the other suggestions and just round bale it. I was a loan office at PCA when the stack system came out- not a very good system, apparently, because after a couple of years they were gone. I think they were the most useful for big ranches with remote fields- you could fence off the stack and self-feed out of one side- very handy in big snow country, where you have trouble getting feed to the cattle in a blizzard.
