oliver 77 rc gas hydraulic pump removal

have oliver 77 row crop gas with hyrdraulic unit. have itt manual and am getting ready to remove hydraulic pump. manual mentions "special pan to prevent gear shift lever springs from dropping into transmission case". do i have to remove gear shifter or can i just tilt hy base with gear shifter in tact ?

Make sure you take the long PTO shaft out first, I never used ANY SPECIAL TOOL. Take the gear shift off, BUT after you take the 2 bolts out and as you lift the gear shift up slightly stick your fingers under there to hold them in place. Use grease to hold them in place when you re-assemble the unit. Make sure the tractor is in neutral to aid you in the reassembly. Get 2 small 3/8 inch set screws and place them in the corners of the gasket when you reassemble the unit to hold the new transmission gasket in position
