Yesterday I went to an area salvage yard and found this 1956 Cockshutt 40 Deluxe that they had recently got in..At first I thought it was 50 because of the 18.4x34 rear tires..I decided that I couldnt live without it so will go get it this afternoon..This is a pretty rare tractor for my area..

The pan has been off and several rod caps were laying on the operators platform so it must need a crank..Is there anything I need to know to put a Gleaner combine motor in it..

Gleaner combine engine? Did they use Buda engines? I have a Cockshutt 30 with a bad engine. Will a Gleaner engine fit it?

40'S AND 50'S USED THE BUDA ENGINE 6B230 AND 6B273 AND THE GLEANER COMBINE ENGINE WILL FIT THOSE TRACTORS YOUR 30 HAS A 4B153 AND A COMBINE ENGINE WILL NOT WORK BUT 30'S ARE VERY VERY VERY COMMON SO ANOTHER ENGINE WILL BE EASY TO FIND.

If you will open your E-Mail, I will send you the Step by step procedure for making this swap, telling you what parts you need to save and swap etc.

Matt had the same info as I did. Good luck with the project. I would love to do one myself, but don't have the tractor or the engine and they both are very hard to find in my part of the country.

Hi Matt,
Would you please repost the document on the conversion. I saved it but it, but it expired.

Thank you

That is a nice looking 40 and so typical of the type we see here. I have a wide fender version of the PD 40 although I switched it over to a Buda diesel as the Perkins had a cracked block.. I see you have the newer style hubs that were prone to loosening up on the splines. My PD 40 has a lot of wear on those splines. The older style hubs with the castle nut and cotter pin seemed to be easier to keep tight although I have worn out a few of them too. It seemed to be a weakness on this series of Cockshutts.
