Bought a 1550 diesel today. Decent sheet metal and starts
and runs well. Lots of hours and a little smoke. Gets better
when it warms up a little. Hydro works fine, brakes need some
attention--maybe just adjusted although I"m not usually that
lucky. Have an owners manual coming and will need a service
manual also. Hope to have it working (and looking) better for
hay next year. I think it"s going to need to smoke a little more
before the engine gets fixed. Needs a few things right away
like a temp gauge. Also either need a fuel sending unit or fuel
gauge or maybe both. Gauges seem pretty easy to find but
who will have the sending unit? Thanks for the help to this
point I"m sure I will be asking more.

touch the sender to ground and the gauge should go to full if you have 12v to the gauge, if it does the gauge is ok, agco and others have senders

The flout in the tank may have a pin hole in it and is full of fuel and reads empty all the time. Take a piece of stiff wire and bend a little hook on it and put it in the tank and fish around till you find the sending unit and raise up on the flout with the key on and see if the gauge moves as you raise it up, If the gauge moves as you raise the flout up then you have a pin hole in the flout. My 1550 diesel had the same problem when I got it and it had a small pin hole right on top of the brass flout. It an easy fix once you get the sending unit out and get the fuel out and cleaned it up to soder it up and reinstall it. Bandit
