oliver 1650 pto shaft removal

I know the pto shaft has to come out to remove the motor. do I have to pull the pto housing off the back off the tractor or can I just pull the top cover with the 4 bolts pull the pto clutch then pull the shaft out. thanks for any info.
 
A 1650 is way different from the 1850. You do need to remove the cover with the 4-5/16 inch cap screws. Put a pan under the cover to catch the oil that is trapped in there. The clutch hub stays with the shaft. You need to remove the snap ring that retains it. Once you do that snap the clutch overcenter so the clutch disk stay in position. Next buy a book even an I & T book. More questions?
