Anyone able to help me with what engine I have in my '47 model 70? It is a 6cyl gas. Mast websites say it is a continental DS202. I found one website that said it is a Waukesha/Oliver. Interesting thing was the site that said Waukesha also referenced an American Bosch Corp magneto which is what I have. I am leaning towards it being the Waukesha. If so is there anywhere to get parts?

It has a Continental engine, they all did. It's a
good engine but parts are expensive and sometimes
hard to find. Some parts from other more popular
Continental engines can be used to rebuild this
engine. Enjoy your "70"!
PS, put a delco distributor on it, it will start
and run better.

So that was what started all this. I was going to put in a Delco and Pertronix has an electronic ignition that fits inside it. However, the diagram I got showed that distributor going verticle from the block through the head. I have a gear box at the rear of the engine and the distributor goes into that and lays horizontal to the engine. Didn't look anything the same.

are you sure your 70 has the correct engine? ours had the distributer on the front right side of the engine where the mag. was and was vertical not horizontal. chuck

Mine also is on the front right side. Do you have a part # stamped on your bock? Mine has D600 A619 stamped on it. I am using the serial number off the plate on the motor as ID. That shows the engine to be from a '47 model 70. So, even if the tractor is a different year or model it wouldn't make any difference. Also, it looks just like all the pictures of a '47 model 70. The serial # makes it a very late in the year model. Wondering if Oliver could have run out of one motor and switched to something else to finish out the year.

They had engine left after they quit building the Model 70. We had 2 customers who purchased them to replace the engines in there older model 70 tractors rather than overhaul the original engine. In fact one was a 37 Hart Parr 70.Your D-600 number is the casting number for a D series Continental engine.

So I guess that leads to this question. If I find a Delco distributor would it swap over easy or do I need to change out the gear box it goes into as well?

I have a oliver70 just like yours it run but smokes have a extra hood also would like to sell it if you are interested? Right side mag have a few other.models to. 1000.00takesit all

I'm sure mine would too. I just need to find one and figure out what I have to do to convert.
